Identifying your browser
brought to you by Four Papayas and a Fnord

In order to assist you in determining whether your browser can run Java 2 applets, we provide hints based on known browsers and operating system capabilities, at our Java Sniff page. These capabilities are determined by reading and interpreting the identifying data sent by the browser (i.e., "browser sniffing").

This page exists simply to help us improve, if the browser identification is incorrect. There is a wide variety of browsers, and we certainly haven't made checks for them all. Sending us the information displayed below will let us improve our identification.

Following is the identification we have determined, plus the raw information provided by your browser

If your browser or system has been misidentified, you may send the above information to us at 4PFsupport@email.toast.net. Please copy it as text from the browser and paste it into the mail; screenshots are not appreciated and, if too large, may be filtered.

The OS X browser OmniWeb does not correctly handle the JavaScript used for browser identification; the script terminates long before any correct identification can be made. We regret this, but since OmniWeb neither supports the standard applet tags we use, we will wait for a future release from the Omni Group before addressing the problem.

A note on spoofing: We don't mind at all if you choose to configure your browser to spoof the navigator information listed above. We understand that some browsers are a little too chatty. If the spoofed text you've set up ought to be able to make the correct identification, let us know. However, if you've spoofed to deliberately confuse browser detection, please don't bother sending us the info: you're plenty smart enough to figure out on your own whether and how to get Java 2 working in your browser.
